What do you do when you have a folder that contains sensitive information, information you would want no one to be able to access? You could, for example, hide that folder somewhere on your system and hope that no one finds it. That could work, but what if someone DOES find the folder? That someone has unrestricted access to the folder and the data it contains.

You are better off doing what I always do – turn to software and see if there is an application out there that can lend a helping hand. There is just such an application out there: the aptly named Password Protect.

The functionality this application provides is fairly simple to explain: it will put a password on the folder of your choosing. Anyone who wants to access that folder will be asked to provide the right password. Since you are the only one who knows the password, only you will be able to access that folder.

The program has a straightforward installation process that completes in no time. It supports locking folders in most versions of Microsoft Windows, from XP to Windows 7.

You don’t have to worry that Password Protect is a difficult application to use. Password Protect comes with a wizard that guides you through all the steps you need to take. This way, even the most inexperienced computer user should find it easy to use Password Protect.

The user just needs to select the desired folder and Password Protect will quickly lock it, making it inaccessible for users without a password. Locked folders can be unlocked following the same steps. Everything is extremely simple, there are no settings and options.

Pros:
It can easily lock any folder stored on the hard disk. It is also very easy to use as it features a step by step wizard. Besides that, it allows entering a password hint in case the password is forgotten.

Cons:
It doesn't include any options and settings and may be considered too simple by advanced users.

Password Protect is a great program for password protecting any kind of folder.
